Family Radio Goofy People

After all the hullabaloo about the apocalypse, Harold Camping, people giving away all their money to prop up a false prophet - I saw a car today with a Family Radio bumper sticker. Family Radio, if you remember, was/is Harold Camping's radio network.

Don't you think this person would be too embarrassed to have this on their car?

See my last blog about Harold Camping.

OK, now I must let this topic drop - I'll let my "Harold Camping is a goof ball" obsession not obsess me anymore. No more Harold Camping blogs (unless he does something really goofy again, of course!).

I cannot seem to find a Harold Camping Bobblehead for sale anywhere on the internet. You would think the people driving the Family Radio cars and vans around would have a good source for these. Does anyone know where I can get one?

October 21, 2011 The Apocalypse

UPDATE - Oct 22, 2011 - Sorry Harold - we are all still here. Better luck next time!

UPDATE - Oct 21, 2011 - It is morning, I am still awake, the good people I know are still here...

UPDATE - Nov 7, 2011 - I heard a report on the radio - Harold Camping admitted he made a mistake, and that he is now out of the predicting business.

Remember all the Hubbub on May 21, 2011, which was "Judgement Day"? Harold Camping from FamilyRadio.com predicted that the Judgement Day, or Rapture was a "spiritual rapture", whatever that is. I never did really understand the explanation.

October 21, 2011 is now supposed to the the actual end of the world. As of this writing, that is tomorrow.

But if you were not one of the chosen on May 21, 2011 - there is nothing you can do. At this point you are either chosen or doomed. The decision has been made on May 21. This is the reason the doom-sayers are no longer driving around and handing out pamphlets. No reason to, any conversions now are worthless (according to them).

Harold Camping has changed his story a bit, though. He now says that the end of the world will "probably" be October 21, 2011. Probably! Is he finally having doubt? Isn't this akin to Moses striking the rock twice?!? Whoops!

It will be interesting what FamilyRadio.com's response will be on October 22. I predict the response will be something like "Sorry for the mistake, but we've already spent the millions sent to us! We'll try to remember to wave from our new yacht!"

See the past ETR articles about this subject:

October 21 Apocalypse
Harold Camping and the Spiritual Rapture

You can still get a Jesus Action Figure. Pretty cool, but it won't do you any good if you did not pass judgement on May 21!

October 21 Apocalypse

Reminder: The actual end of the world, aka the Apocalypse, is coming up soon.

We all remember the Judgement day fiasco on May 21 of this year. But the media has seemed to have forgotten that the actual end of the world is coming October 21, 2011. At least - according to Harold Camping.

We haven't heard much from Harold lately. What has he been up to? He has been laying pretty low, out of the public's eye.

In June he suffered a stroke. He has been in the hospital and in recuperation since then. See the ETR May 17, 2001 post where I sort-of-predict he was to handle the fiasco by having a heart attack. I was not far off.

Here is the announcement they make about Harold's condition:

His radio station empire has pulled the plug on his radio show - at least for now. I assume harold will not come back - too embarrassing for the company. But they have not totally distanced themselves from harold. On the front page of the familyradio.com website there is a link "What Happened on May 21?". On this page they try to explain the fiasco. On may 21 the Rapture did occur, but it was a "Spiritual Rapture", which I do not completely understand.

The last sentence of their explanation is a blatant attempt to keep the fiasco alive and bring in more money:

Anyone can continue to beseech God for mercy because salvation and the election program are entirely in God’s hands.

According to their philosophy this is not true. We should have been all "judged" on May 21, that is final. How can we still be saved? Crazy.

If you really do think you still have a chance - you'd better show your faith to the world by getting one of these:

Massive Solar Flare

Update: June 08, 2011 - The flare was supposed to produce an aurora in the northern sky of North America. So far I can not see anything in the Northern sky. 10pm California time.

Original article:
On June 7, 2011 the sun experienced a CME, an acronym for Coronal Mass Ejection, from sunspot complex 1226-1227. The picture to the left is an actual picture from the event.

The flare's peak was at 1:41am (ET) June 8th. The blast was not pointed at the earth, but we will get a glancing blow from the blast around 6pm (ET) June 8, 2011. The effects are unknown exactly, buy there may be disruptions in GPS communication and power grids. Airports may change flight patterns near the poles.

This is the biggest flare up since 2006. The debris from the eruption fell back to the sun, covering almost one third of the surface.

What is a Coronal Mass Ejection? Here is a good explanation from NASA:
The outer solar atmosphere, the corona, is structured by strong magnetic fields. Where these fields are closed, often above sunspot groups, the confined solar atmosphere can suddenly and violently release bubbles of gas and magnetic fields called coronal mass ejections. A large CME can contain a billion tons of matter that can be accelerated to several million miles per hour in a spectacular explosion. Solar material streams out through the interplanetary medium, impacting any planet or spacecraft in its path. CMEs are sometimes associated with flares but can occur independently.

Here is a NASA video of the event:

If only this would have happened on May 21! Harold Camping would have said, "You see! You see? What did I tell you!"

See the NASA information about the CME at http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sunearth/news/News060711-blast.html. I love NASA.

Harold Camping and the Spiritual Rapture

OK, this is weirder then Mike the Headless Chicken. And even a far bit sadder.

Harold Camping, the instigator of the failed Judgment Day, made a very long public statement tonight.

Usually his show consists of answering questions from callers. But tonight he was accepting no calls from the public. Harold talked for an hour trying to explain himself, then opened up for questions from a room full of reporters.

His talk at the beginning started out sounding like he was going to apologize. He sounded rather clear headed and humble about the whole thing. But he slowly digressed into rambling about this and that.

The upshot is that the Rapture actually happened on May 21, 2011. His error was in predicting what kind of Rapture it would be. It turned out to be a "spiritual rapture", or a rapture in spirit and not in the physical world. Thus, no earthquakes or people floating up to heaven.

He states the real end of the world WILL BE OCTOBER 21, 2011. On that day the saved will be swept up to heaven and the world will be destroyed very quickly. The non-saved will not go to hell, but will just cease to exist.

One reporter asked if FamilyRadio.com will give any money back. They collected over $100M in donations (from crazy people) to spread the word. He thinks there is no point to returning the money, no one will need it after October 21, 2011.

So the debacle continues.

Crazy Judgment Day Believers

Now the the predicted judgment day has passed, what do all those crazy believers do now? Where will they go? What about the ones that spent all of their file savings to pursue this goofiness?

Perhaps you have a story? Do you know what happened to any of these people? Perhaps you are one of these people, can you tell us your story and thoughts about what happened? Leave a comment below! Please!

Perhaps the only good thing that will come out of this whole Judgment day dud is some great stories.

Where is Harold Camping?

Where is Harold Camping? You know, the guy who predicted the Rapture on May 21st? It is now the day after the rapture and he is nowhere to be found.

His website FamilyRadio.com is not working. They've obviously taken it off the servers.

I was hoping to hear a statement or anything from Harold Camping on his radio show today. The FamilyRadio radio station is replaying old programs, none of them with Harold Camping or mentioning anything about Judgment day.

I read that reporters tried to reach him at his house, but one one answered the door.

Did he die? Did he flee the country with the millions of dollars donated to his cause? Or, maybe the rapture did come (without the earthquakes) and he was the only one pious enough to be taken up?

It will be interesting to hear what happened to him. I expect we'll hear from him in several days.

A recent poll found that 54% of people think he'll come back to the public limelight announcing an error in his doomsday calculations and declare another date. One can only hope!

No Rapture Today!

It is now just after 6pm where I live. I walked out of my front door, looked up, and did NOT see the scene in the picture to the left.

So, are we OK? I fell no earthquake! Have we just skirted past the rapture one more time?

What does Harold Camping have to say?! I'll be listening to the radio, this will be interesting to hear!

But wait: Wasn't Harold Camping sitting here just a could of minutes ago? (see picture below)

End of the World Today

Today is the Day! It is 9am as I am writing this. 9 more hours till the Rapture! All seems OK so far! Not much else to say.

FYI: That is not me in the picture! I got it from Here.

Judgment Day is One Day Away!

One more day left! May 21, 2001, 6pm! I grabbed the picture on the left from FamilyRadio.com.
I was listening to the Family Radio broadcast last night. They still have the nerve to ask people to send in donations! If they really believe the end of the world is coming, why do they still ask you to send in money! The post office won't deliver after Saturday!
I read that Family Radio has $120Million in the bank! Why didn't they spend ALL that money trying to warn every corner of the world?

Judgment Day! May 21, 2011

Sorry, the date is coming up, I can't let this rest. See eBibleFellowship. Have these guys no shame? What are they going to say on May 22? "Oh, sorry! We have now recalculated to 20xx. Send us more money!"
Either this organization and others like it are actually evil, or really misinformed about life in general. Did the leaders of this movement have really oppressive childhoods?
I am worried about the confused idiots who will wake up on May 22 and commit suicide. Are there any cults that will turn to suicide this weekend? Are the police notified of this and on special watch around the world?
One good thing has come out of all of this. Someone, other than the religious nuts begging for money on TV and radio, has figured out how to make money off of this. Who will take care of your pet after you disappear because you are taken up in the rapture? This guy will. Pure genius!

May 22 End of The World Suicides?

You may have heard - there is a huge campaign that the end of the world is coming May 21, 2011. Harold Camping (picture at left) of FamilyRadio fame has developed a following by predicting the end of the world is May 21.

Many either scoff at his predictions, others ignore or don't know of it. But really, it is not cute. I've seen cars, vans, trucks on the freeway touting the end of the world. People have quit their jobs. Some really believe.

We all have the right to believe what we want, preach what we want. But, this is really irresponsible of Harold Camping.

HERE IS MY PREDICTION:
May 22 will be the date of a lot of religious suicides.
I hope I am wrong.

And what is Harold going to say on his broadcast May 22? How can he have the nerve to show his face? That broadcast is going to be very cringe-worthy. He is an old man, will be just will himself a heart attack the night of May 21?

Answer this: If you really think the world is coming to an end because of listening to a radio preacher, give up your job, spend months on the road preaching the end of the world, how do you face the world a day after the event was "positively going to happen"?

May 22, 2011 is going to be a really bad day for a lot of well meaning but gullible people. They need to be on suicide watch.

Update - May 25, 2011 - I have not heard any reports of suicides! Yay! Were there any? -gello

End of the World, May 21!

End of the World?

Have you heard? The end of the world is coming on May 21, 2011. If you are looking into any major purchases in the near future, it may be wise to wait till May 22.

The actual end of the world is now slated for Oct 21, 2011. The Rapture is May 21, 2011. The end of the World is Oct 21, 2011. The Rapture is an event in the futurist interpretation of Christian eschatology, in which it is posited that Christians will be gathered together in the air to meet Christ at, or up to seven years prior to, his return (from Wikipedia). See Here for more details.

It is advised that if you have any big life changing plans or major purchases, wait till May 22. If on that date a lot of your friends show up missing, wait till Oct 22. If you wake up on Oct 22, go ahead and make that big move or purchase.

An alternative plan is to apply for as much credit cards as you can now. If you wake up on May 22 and a lot of your friends are missing, go ahead and max out your credit cards. Don't bother making any payments, on Oct 21 your debt will be erased!

If you wake up on Oct 22 and all is fine, call this guy and ask "What's up?"
